What is Peyronie’s Disease?
A Peyronie’s disease oftentimes involve:
• A lump or set of lumps in the penis (they might be visible only when erect)• Pain and discomfort when the penis is erect• Abnormal bending and angulation of the penis causing it to point somewhere other than it normally does.
The first thing noticeable is the appearance of the lumps. When they further develop and grow larger, an unusual bending of the penis whenever erect may occur. This may not be noticeable in a flaccid penis. These are symptoms of Peyronnie’s disease and sex may in fact be affected by the bending of the penis.
What Causes Peyronie’s Disease?
The lumps you see are similar to the abnormal growth of tissue or fat in any part of the body. This might be frightening and can make you think of cancer. However, many lumps in the penis are benign and a mere surgical removal will solve the problem. Some men do not bother removing them if they cause no problem in the functioning of the penis.
What Doctors Say
In majority of cases, men do not seek medical intervention when afflicted with Peyronie’s disease. In mild cases the lumps often just die out or the growth of lumps is so slow, which is often the case in Peyronnie’s disease, and sex is never affected.
However, for men with hypertension, diabetes and other diseases that affects the veins, their condition may aggravate the disease and medical help in conjunction with the treatment of their current condition should be sought.
