Some Need-to-Know Facts About Oral Sex Transmitted Diseases
One of the biggest misconceptions about STDs or sexually transmitted diseases is that they can only be transmitted through sex. That is, through either vaginal or anal sex. A lot of people believe that STDs are not transferrable through oral sex. Unfortunately, this just isn’t true. There are still a lot of instances wherein STDs are transmitted through oral sex.
Although the transmittance of HIV through oral sex is a rarity, there are still a lot of STDs out there that can infect those that give and/or receive oral sex. Below are some need-to-know facts about oral sex transmitted diseases and how they can be avoided.
General Guidelines
For those who engage in oral sex, there are a few important things that need to be kept in mind in order to lower the chance of getting some type of infection. This is applicable for both males and females who either give or receive oral sex.
First off, any liquid bodily excretions should be kept away from the mouth. In particular, vaginal fluids or the semen shouldn’t be allowed to come in contact with the mouth. These fluids may contain certain bacteria or infections that can easily affect the giver of oral sex if he or she ingests or if his or her mouth comes in contact with said fluids. It is also advisable not to give oral sex if one’s mouth is in an unhealthy state i.e. no sores, cuts, or cases of bleeding gums.
Some Helpful Hints
As mentioned earlier, vaginal fluids should be kept away from the mouth. This means that for oral sex on females, one may want to make use of a dental dam or a latex square from a condom that is not lubricated. Although dental dams are usually available in stores, others make their own dental dams by making use of a plastic food wrap. The point is just to avoid contact between the vagina and the mouth.
For males, it is advisable to make use of condoms. There are a lot of flavored condoms in the market that should make the experience more pleasurable. Following these tips should help decrease the probability of getting oral sex transmitted diseases. GP
