Female and male condoms can be used, as they provide a barrier from the possible exchange of infected body fluids. Anal sex and oral sex is unadvised, unless the use of protection is observed. A lot of bacteria are present in the rectum and the mouth, and these can infect the genitals and cause other symptoms. A dental dam is like a plastic sheet which can be inserted into the mouth before oral sex. Also, lubricants, when used along with condoms, may cause the latex to tear, leaving an opening for pathogens to transfer.

Aside from safe sex, one should not use illegal drugs, especially those taken intravenously or through a syringe. These needles are not sterile, and they can be carriers of blood-borne infections that are likewise irreversible when acquired.

Some STD’s can be acquired through poor hygiene. Some parasites, like pubic lice and those mites that cause scabies, can be acquired when unclean garments or linens are used. A person who has these parasites should not come in contact with another person, as the parasites immediately attach to a new host to feed on its blood. Symptoms of these include itchiness in the pelvic and thigh area, as these are the zones where the female parasites lay their eggs. They can be treated with topical creams and special medicated soaps.

Medical experts see to it that their patients are well-informed about STD’s, their symptoms, treatments, and possible ways of preventing them. Any wise person will take his time to gather this information and use it to his benefit.

In a world where almost anything can cause disease, one of the best methods of staying healthy requires the knowledge and understanding of health risks. Health risks are present in the air we breathe, the types of food we consume, or occupations, and especially the people we interact with. The foremost issues that are a cause for global concern are sexually transmitted diseases (STD). These conditions are caused by a variety of vectors, whether fungal, bacterial, or viral. STD’s can afflict both men and women, and in many nations, children as well.

STD’s can be introduced to the body through sexual contact. Since STD’s are caused by pathogens, or microorganisms that invade the body systems, they can be treated by certain medications. However, severe cases of some STD’s, which are immune system disorders like AIDS and HIV, are far from being cured. HIV and AIDS, in fact, is one of the leading causes of death around the world, as reported and projected by the World Health Organization.

How can one arm himself against STD’s? Some experts advice abstinence, or not having sex at all. Since many people find this difficult to do, doctors instead recommend having monogamous and long term relationships. One has to be sure that his or her partner has had no history of any STD, and regular check-ups should be done. Many clinics do STD’s testing as part of routines, especially when dealing with prenatal check-ups of pregnant women, as some STD’s can have negative effects to an unborn baby.
