It also happens to be one of the most common bacterial STDs in the United States, second only to the Chlamydia infection. Gonorrhea is caused by a bacterium that is called Neisseris gonorrhoeae.

Gonorrhea Facts for Men

For men, one of the most common symptoms of this bacterial infection is the discharge of a yellowish liquid from the penis. It is usually thicker than urine and may cause more frequent and painful urination. Symptoms such as these usually manifest themselves within two days to one month after the infection. However, there are some men that do not actually experience any symptoms. The problem with gonorrhea is that it has the tendency to spread to other parts of the body. This includes, but is not limited to the epididymis, seminal vesicles, and the prostate. Aside from short term effects such as chronic pain and/or fever, one of the long term effects of gonorrhea include sterility if untreated.

Gonorrhea Facts for Women

The symptoms of Gonorrhea in females are much more dormant. That is, less than half of the female victims of this STD do not manifest any symptoms. If ever they do, most of the symptoms aren’t noticed because of their mildness. However, for those who may experience symptoms, they may include abdominal bleeding, burning pain during urination, genital irritation, lower abdomen discomfort, as well as unusual vaginal discharge. If Gonorrhea is not treated at once, it may lead to more severe complications. As with men, the bacterium can spread to other parts of the body in females such as the ovaries, fallopian tubes, or the uterus. However, contrary to popular belief, Gonorrhea cannot be transmitted through communal toilets or bathrooms.

Gonorrhea also happens to be one of the most scary oral sex transmitted disease in both men and women because it has been known to spread and affect the joints, as well as the heart valves. GP

That is, through either vaginal or anal sex. A lot of people believe that STDs are not transferrable through oral sex. Unfortunately, this just isn’t true. There are still a lot of instances wherein STDs are transmitted through oral sex.
Although the transmittance of HIV through oral sex is a rarity, there are still a lot of STDs out there that can infect those that give and/or receive oral sex. Below are some need-to-know facts about oral sex transmitted diseases and how they can be avoided.

General Guidelines

For those who engage in oral sex, there are a few important things that need to be kept in mind in order to lower the chance of getting some type of infection. This is applicable for both males and females who either give or receive oral sex.
First off, any liquid bodily excretions should be kept away from the mouth. In particular, vaginal fluids or the semen shouldn’t be allowed to come in contact with the mouth. These fluids may contain certain bacteria or infections that can easily affect the giver of oral sex if he or she ingests or if his or her mouth comes in contact with said fluids. It is also advisable not to give oral sex if one’s mouth is in an unhealthy state i.e. no sores, cuts, or cases of bleeding gums.

Some Helpful Hints

As mentioned earlier, vaginal fluids should be kept away from the mouth. This means that for oral sex on females, one may want to make use of a dental dam or a latex square from a condom that is not lubricated. Although dental dams are usually available in stores, others make their own dental dams by making use of a plastic food wrap. The point is just to avoid contact between the vagina and the mouth.

For males, it is advisable to make use of condoms. There are a lot of flavored condoms in the market that should make the experience more pleasurable. Following these tips should help decrease the probability of getting oral sex transmitted diseases. GP
