The Dangers of Anal Sex: Anal Sex Diseases
There are a lot of diseases that can be transmitted through anal sex. Some of the more common anal sex diseases include HIV, HPV (human papilloma virus), typhoid fever, as well as a few other diseases that are associated with fecal matter infections. Anal sex can even lead to other bodily infections that are not even near the anus. Such diseases include tuberculosis, hepatitis (A, B & C), salmonellosis, and E. coli infections. In fact, anal sex has also been known to increase the risk of cancer among practitioners.
Anal Cancer
The most common cause of anal cancer is a disease known as HPV (human papilloma virus). It is also not surprising that one of the primary causes of HPV is none other than anal sex. Over the past 30 years, the incidence of this condition has risen by almost 80% in females, and a whopping 160% among males. This change is greatly attributed to the recent changes in sexual behavior trends, as well as in the use of tobacco. While the use of tobacco has increased the occurrence of anal cancer four times, receptive anal sex (paired with multiple sex partners) is still the main culprit as it has raised the incidence seven times.
Physical Damage and Anal Incontinence
Aside from diseases and other bacterial conditions, the negative effects of anal sex can also manifest itself through physical damage in the anus. This may include conditions such as rectal prolapse, anal fissures, hemorrhoids, as well as ano-rectal trauma. Without sufficient amounts of lubrication, anal sex can become much more painful, and sometimes even injurious.
Another possible effect of anal sex is anal incontinence or the inability to control one’s bowels. Although this may be somewhat rare, it is still a cause for concern especially when the consequences of the condition are taken into consideration. One study has shown the occurrence of anal incontinence in around 35% of men who regularly engage in anal sex. This is definitely one of the anal sex diseases one would want to veer away from. GP
